Planes

The planarverse is made up of a multitude of different worlds, or planes, with Ulos being the “hub world” of them all. Each plane has its own distinct characteristics. They are home to unusual and powerful creatures and gods.

Travel between planes is possible, though not advised. Dangers of all sorts lurk in the different planes.

I accidentally brought back a stowaway. A strange creature - like a living pool of blackened pudding - attached itself to my bag. - Gulpax's Journal (GS-Journal)

Those brave (or foolish) enough to attempt traveling between planes can access them through rifts. Powerful artifacts from the various planes will open rifts to their home when not kept in a durgolium container. Depending on who holds these artifacts can be a cause for great concern.

“King Taron has somehow managed to open a rift to Affril over his own palace, may the gods save us.” - Kaiika Priestess - Eye of Ulos (RPA-ADV4)
“Taron wants to use Azema’s power to conquer all of Ulos. Even so, it’s our job to serve him, trusting that the gods will see us through in the end.” - Mindle - Eye of Ulos (RPA-ADV4)
“Your king has opened a rift in the veil that separates Ulos from the planarverse. One of its tendrils descended, so I had to stop time and secure it. If we don’t stabilize the rift, it will tear Sabek apart, just like they did in the Dragul lands.” - Sleecrath - Silver Threads of Fate (LC1)

Rhyme of the Planes

(A children’s verse)

If your face is in Nebblis, you’ll burn off your nose.
If your feet are in Iktel you’ll freeze off your toes.
Affril has numbered the hairs on your head,
But if you’re in Mikto, it’s secret instead.
In Hoshek I’ll grow up as strong as a tree,
‘Til the creatures of Moti come looking for me.

Gulpax's Journal

Imagine all of existence as a stack of paper, each sheet a plane. Energy bleeds through that stack like a puddle of ink. As it seeps downward, the energy creates a gateway from one plane of existence to another.

I began small: making gates the size of coins, then the size of a helmet. I'd test each size a few times before increasing the power. The trouble began when I opened a gate large enough to walk through. the first was a great success! I stood on purple shores and looked out over a vast, living sea! But opening that gate a second time, I was met with darkness. And in that inky black, I felt hungry eyes staring back.

Now with every gate I test, I feel a presence stirring, an entity beyond the meager pages of our story - a gaping maw of endless, ceaseless hunger. I fear I have turned its focus to us, to Ulos. Its agents are already among us. I can only hope to finish my colossus before it arrives. - Explorer's Guide (GS-Guide-ADV5-38)
