Kaiika

Penguin-based race, hailing from the Frozen Expanse. They are sentient creatures with a social hierarchy.

One of their larger villages is known as Yulora. It is often the target of attacks by the local Frost Giants.

“We’ve begged her [ Queen Gimnax ] to send soldiers to protect us from the Frost Giants. She’s all but ignored us.” - Dreni - The Frozen Expanse (GS-ADV6)

Despite her apparent reluctance to send aid, the Kaiika have remained loyal to Queen Gimnax over the years.

Legends tell of the Kaiika once being hunted by a Leviathan. It is said that Shissatissk trapped its soul in a gemstone for eternity.

Frost Giants have been known to attack the Kaiika, demolishing their villages and taking their kin.

Kaiika communities live in villages, primarily in the Frozen Expanse. Homes are made from ice blocks. The Kaiika live in general isolation, only receiving news from the mainland from passing trader vessels, such as the Merrin's Hammer.

The village Elder oversees all the happenings of the villagers. Warriors and hunters are trained in the use of spears, hunting, and fighting. Sorcerers also have lived among the Kaiika, with Kayok the Slipperyquick being the last living example.

Kaiika primarly survive on a diet of fish. However, they are always willing to hunt bigger game such as snow leopards or bear. Their pelts can be used for trade. Scouts are excellent at finding such game.

Monks of the village will lead citizens in their worship of Shissatissk, the goddess of fishing. Priestesses are known to have ventured to the mainland in order to share their religious beliefs.

Young Kaiika can often be found entertaining themselves with a simple game. Six stand in a triangle formation at the end of a length of ice. A seventh hurls themselves down the ice, hoping to knock over as many as possible.

Arriving in the Frozen Expanse aboard the ship Merrin's Hammer, you will encounter a number of Kaiika in their village of Yulora. When you arrive, they are under attack by the Frost Giant Lomar.

The choice is before you:

• Defend the Kaiika.
• Help Lomar collect them.
• Convince Lomar to release her captives.

Visiting the Glacial Palace, you will discover a number of Kaiika have been taken captive by the Frost Giants. They are being prepared for the nightly meal.
