Servants of Azema

Undead acolytes of the Dragon Azema who walk between life and death. Often referred to as, in general terms, zombies.

During the time of Queen Gimnax's rule, a number of them are experimented upon by Gulpax the Crafter in the catacombs of Sabek.

Description

The Servants of Azema are undead, following her so fiercely that they choose not to leave their mortal coil;

“Now she [ Queen Gimnax ] hopes to rid herself of Azema’s Servants. I can understand her concerns, but the priests could no sooner slaughter our undead brothers and sisters than we could burn this temple to the ground. Members of our priesthood often choose to shed their mortal forms to better serve their creator. The undying may seem to many like monsters, but they are immortal. In this, they are closer than us to the gods.” - Priest, Servants of Azema (GS-ADV2)

Some members of the following, though still grotesque and rotting in their appearance, retain the sentience they had in life;

He pulls back his hood, revealing a face of rotted flesh. The skin covering the right half of his jaw has peeled off, exposing a set of yellowed teeth and blackish gums.

“Don’t be alarmed,” he says. “Though it is a rare occurrence, Azema’s Servants are sometimes able to speak and act normally. We have Azema herself to thank for this blessing. - Priest, Servants of Azema (GS-ADV2)

This coherence appears to come in waves, however, or at the very least wane over time. The Servants of Azema blessed with their faculties from life are still susceptible to regressing into a mindless state, driven only by hunger;

“I am lucid now, but it won’t be long before my memories again fade. I will be no more in control of my actions than the creatures you encountered beneath the catacombs. - Priest, Servants of Azema (GS-ADV2)
