satyr

Satyr

A bipedal creature with a Human upper torso and goat-like or horse-like legs with cloven hooves. Their features often include horns, shaggy hair, and beast like faces.

“When a Satyr mother gives birth, we do not say that a child is born, we say that they have ‘joined the song.’ So I can think of no better start to a friendship than for you to join us in this way.” - Jara - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

Notable Characters

History

The Satyr originally built the Castle Carleval and have a birthright to it. Led by Jara, they contest with the Human Duntum family, who have lived within its walls since the end of the First Great War.

“The Duntum family stole the castle from my people many generations ago.“ - Jara - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
The Satyr scoff at the suggestion that Carleval might be shared, stamping their hooves in anger. - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

Satyr secrets and sacred shrines are located throughout various woodland areas in Ulos. Trespassing by outsiders is met with resistance, often violent.

“Our forests are forbidden to outsiders! They hold many secrets known only to the Satyr. Your cartographers are not welcome there.” - Mr. Rugbeard - Explorer's Guide (GS-Guide-ADV2-2)

Culture

Satyr worship Kynt, the god of wine. A statue dedicated to him can be found in the Temple of Ulos. - Eye of Ulos (RPA-ADV4)

Satyr are quite fond of wine and music. Their enjoyment for both are recounted through stories and song across the lands. Their celebrations and festivals include an abundance of both.

You hear music coming from the woods. Peering through the trees, you discover a group of Satyr dancing around the crumbling tombstones of an ancient cemetery. As one plays the pan flute, another sings in accompaniment, and the others clap their hands, stomping their hooves in celebration. - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

Music is often used to retell a story of past heroics or journeys. - Questline (QL)

It is said that some Satyr are able to use magic in their music, affecting the minds of those who hear their melodic tunes.

I can’t help but suspect that Annabelle’s music box has been enchanted. She seems unnaturally obsessed with it. I’ve heard that the previous inhabitants of Castle Carleval, the Satyr, were adept at weaving magic through song. The box appears to be of Gnomish craftsmanship, another possible source of such magical mischief. - Lady Dorothea Duntum, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

Satyr engage in embraces of greeting all their own;

Jara drops her axe in the snow and embraces you in the Satyr fashion. - Gate of Brizoor Waal (RPA-ADVF)

Satyr speak fluent Dragul Common.
