Personality

Taron's motives may not be as altruistic as one would believe;

“Taron wants to use Azema’s power to conquer all of Ulos. Even so, it’s our job to serve him, trusting that the gods will see us through in the end.” - Mindle, Eye of Ulos (RPA-ADV4)

It is later revealed that he has personal motives behind the conflict;

Together they give you a vision of Taron, sitting alone in this hall on one of two thrones. The walls are bare of trophies. A messenger arrives, crestfallen, and delivers the king news that his wife, Queen Amalia, ruler of Nalos, has died in battle defending her realm from the Dragul. - Eye of Ulos (RPA-ADV4)

Taron's career is marked by trying to do what he thought was best;

King Taron led Nalos through many hard years. His rule was marked by controversy, but he ultimately won the love of his people — and the support of the Royal Council — through his shrewd strategies during the Dragul Invasion. - Gate of Brizoor Waal (RPA-ADVF)

According to Taron, his crown itself exhibits magical properties;

“I used my crown to open a rift homeward from Moti, the plane of death. Powerful objects always find their way home.” - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

Taron's Ring

Taron's ring allows him to hear the thoughts of all those around him;

He jumps into the rift that closes behind him, confident he will return.

Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

Upon arrival at Falandore, Zerith takes you to Falandore that meets the Forgotten Forest's edge, and here you find Taron's ghost, then grasped by a Ghost-Eater;

Staring into the crowd, you are shocked to see the ghost of King Taron among them. Last you saw him, the king was still alive, having escaped into a rift. Taron opens his mouth as if to speak, but no sound escapes his lips. - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)
  • Interfere and attempt to save your king:
  • Watch its behavior and see what happens:
    • Gain Zerith's favor and hear the noises of the monster.

Taron's spirit is then pulled into the Forgotten Forest.

The ghost of King Taron appears again at the Abandoned Watchtower, where he leaves you with a cryptic clue;

“I’m not dead, but I need your help. Use the map. It’s the only way to find me. The lines are hidden, they can only be revealed by the light of truth.” - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

When you arrive at Castle Carleval, you watch as Taron's spirit returns to his body and he explains his reasons for entering the rift at Sabek Palace;

“You may have heard that the Immortal Knight has gone missing. I sent him to explore other planes, and he never returned. I journeyed to Affril in search of him but fell through a rift to Moti, the plane of death, before I could make any progress.” - King Taron, Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

Taron will weigh your loyalty to the King's Guard with his special ring;

Then he removes a small golden ring from his pocket, places it on his finger, and closes his eyes.
When his eyes open again, King Taron appears pleased and slips his ring back into his pocket. - Ghost-Eaters of the Forgotten Forest (RPA-ADV7)

If you encountered Warden Mercy in the Forgotten Forest, Taron will remove her tracking beetle.

Ghost-Eaters will then spring upon you:

  • Attempt to talk them down:
    • Succeed, and they will leave you with a mysterious mark, returning to whence they came.
      • A horde of angry spirits surround you to defend the castle.
    • Fail, and they will advance.
  • Fight:

Depending on which side of the Castle Carleval conflict you have found yourself - on that of the Duntums or that of the Satyr - they will come to your aid and fight off the impending threat;

If you helped neither of them reach the castle, then you fight alone:

After the climax at Castle Carleval, King Taron takes you to Cutty's Landing to quell the song of Dragons.

Dragons of the Sunken City (RPA-ADV8)

In Adventure 7 at Castle Carleval, you rescued King Taron from the Ghost-Eaters. He insisted that you accompany him to Cutty’s Landing, a port city on the eastern edge of Nalos. So begins the eighth adventure, the Dragons of the Sunken City.

You accompany King Taron to a seaside tavern in Cutty's Landing called The Golden Hope. Just before entering you see a ring slip unnoticed from King Taron's pocket; you retrieve it and put it on. Once inside the tavern you and the king hire a ship captain for passage to the Isle of Winter where Vyrandore resides.

When you arrive at the Isle of Winter you and the king take a row boat ashore. From the water you can hear the Dragons' song. At the shore you see great eagles. You and the king may catch a flight to Dagger Peak on the back of a great eagle or a Dragon.

At Dagger Peak you meet Queen Vyrandore who reveals to King Taron that you have his ring. Queen Vyrandore would like to use the ring to aid in the singing to raise Myrros, but King Taron wants his ring returned to him. Your choice with the ring will shift your allegiance to the Dragons or bolster it with King Taron.

At the Northern Archipelago you and the king would encounter young Dragon named Hakendrof that is injured. With your help Hakendrof may live. It is also at this location that you and the king may discover some buried treasure.

At the Boiling Mists you and the king are escorted by either Captain Giselle or Captain Kaemon, whom informs you that the sunken city of Myrros lies 60 feet below. Here you may acquire the Red Pearl.

At Myrros you and the king may encounter Queen Vyrandore. You may also acquire the Red Pearl here.

Gate at Brizoor Waal (RPA-ADVF)

Taron, atop a megapede, fights against Zerith and Urka in Nebblis, Plane of Flame:

    • If you defeat the opposition and are favored by the Halfling, he will greet you amused. You claim the site, and find a red rune.
    • If you defeat the opposition and are disfavored by the Halfling, you will meet his skepticism but claim the site, finding a red rune.

Miscellaneous

The Demon Elsifor laughs at the secrets Taron's family keeps;

“Most folks in Nalos have a skeleton or two in their closet. How do you suppose they’ll react when they find out their secrets are out and walking freely in another plane? I’d love to see the look on Taron’s face when his mother’s journal comes wandering back from oblivion.” - Elsifor, Gate of Brizoor Waal (RPA-ADVF)
